Session Type: Roundtable Session
Research in eminence has traditionally studied exceptional and gifted white males. Only recently, researchers have explored eminence in women including women of color. The purpose of this session is to explore the factors that influence notable African American, Anglo American, and Asian American women in various professions (e.g., academics, educators, scholars, artists, musicians, writers, activists, entertainers, etc). Based on biographical accounts, the collective papers will identify common social, cultural, and environmental influences of highly successful women. The implications provide insight in terms of understanding contextual factors that promote learning and achievement for girls in the early years.
