Ethnographic Research in Multilingual Contexts: Microlevel Perspectives on Macrolevel Policies

Abstract
This panel highlights how micro-level ethnographic research on language and education can offer rich insight into the implementation and interpretation of macro-level language policies. It brings together a variety of scholars engaged in ethnographic research in multilingual contexts internationally, providing insights into different methodological lenses researchers have employed in examining the complex role of the local context in resisting, reinterpreting, and adapting language policy at the local level. In addition to engaging with issues of scale in policy and practice, the panelists also address specific research challenges and opportunities related to ethnographic research in diverse, multilingual contexts.
