Session Type: Symposium
Education scholars have been late adopters of social media compared to professionals in other fields; however, our critical role in connecting with youth and across disciplines makes mastering social media an essential skill for today’s higher education scholar. This symposium assembles a cross-generational, cross-gender, cross-institutional type, cross-ethnic coalition of Division J members to discuss utilizing social media such as Twitter for dissemination of research, branding at the outset of one’s career, leveraging one’s visibility in research and commentary, managing the “good and bad” of digital engagement, and bringing attention to the experiences of marginalized students in higher education. This interactive, worldwide symposium promises to engage Division J members at all levels of engagement in the world of social media.
