Abstract

To understand common practices occurring in high poverty schools that demonstrate dramatic student achievement gains, and develop a way of sharing the knowledge and practices from these schools, New Leaders developed the Urban Excellence Framework™ (UEF). Drawing on the research on effective schools, school visits and case studies, the UEF is tool that outlines, in detail, the components of high quality school leadership that contributes to high student achievement. Through four papers, this session will help attendees (a) understand the UEF as a tool to strengthen leadership for school improvement as well as (b) see the potential of the UEF as a research framework for understanding school practices.
