Understanding the Urban Advantage Middle School Science Initiative’s Implementation and Impact: A Multicity Analysis

Abstract
The purpose of this session is to present research and evaluation findings on the implementation and impact of Urban Advantage, a middle school science initiative currently used in New York City and Denver. Urban Advantage is a partnership program between informal science education institutions (e.g., zoos, botanical gardens, museums) and public school districts. The program provides professional development to middle school science teachers and their administrators so they can help students conduct scientific investigations. The current session will highlight factors that influence program implementation and impact, as well as explain how knowledge obtained through the development process has informed subsequent work.
