Advancing the Leadership Pipeline Through University and District Partnerships: Perspectives on Building and Cultivating Relationships

Abstract

As the nation’s large urban school districts are facing a shortage of credentialed and qualified school teachers and leaders, they are being courted by emergent preparation programs with claims of providing services for under-represented minority and at-risk students. Recognizing the significance of leadership development to improving schools and student learning, many urban districts have begun partnering with neighboring universities that support their leadership pipeline. The objective of this symposium is to describe the nature of four leadership development partnerships with large urban school districts and neighboring universities. This symposium is designed to provide guidance to school districts and universities in developing and cultivating a mutual partnership that will lead to stronger schools.
