Abstract

The idea of college readiness is becoming increasingly common place in the educational policy dialogue. College readiness is thought of as the preparation a student needs to succeed in college, particularly without remediation. Racial and class disparities in terms of remedial education participation and high school academic performance form a common thread across college readiness issues. Yet, as with many issues in education, one population that is distinctly absent from the college readiness dialogue is Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans (AAPI). This symposium presents four papers followed by a facilitated discussion on the issue of college readiness and what it means for the Asian and Pacific Islander American population in the United States.
