Session Type: Symposium
This symposium explores multiple facets of an IES-funded evaluation of Spatial Temporal Math (STMath), an elementary mathematics software program. We move beyond simple examination of treatment/control differences on standardized tests to investigate a rich range of alternative outcomes, such as student motivation and cognitive skills. We also look deeper into how and why STMath has an effect by analyzing software features and teacher professional development. Each paper within the symposium presents results focused on interventions, educational technology, and math achievement; together they allow for a discussion of the affordances of large-scale evaluations and present an opportunity for the participating researchers to share both encouraging insights and lessons learned from this five-year study.
