Abstract

In recent years, federal policy (notably the Race to the Top and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act flexibility process) has promoted innovation in educator evaluation, with a particular focus on using research to develop multiple measures of teacher effectiveness that are both rigorous and comprehensive. Meanwhile, through the latest iteration of the Regional Educational Laboratories, federal policy has also promoted an innovative approach to research that seeks to increase its relevance and use by making its design and conduct a collaboration between researchers and educators. The session describes the research conducted by three RELs, in partnership with their states and districts, to examine and inform the continued to development of new educator evaluation systems.
