Abstract

This structured poster session examines the “Affective Turn” (Clough, 2007) in the humanities and social sciences and its implications for social-justice work in educational research. Within a context of the “visceral literacies” (Dutro, in press) of curriculum, pedagogy, and research methods, the session is grounded in the critical, feminist, and poststructuralist theoretical traditions in which recent multidisciplinary innovations in the study of affect, emotion, and the body arise (Ahmed, 2010; Greg & Seigworth, 2010; Massumi, 2002). Our aim is to employ the organization of the session to contextualize a theoretical terrain shared by the papers, allow for audience participation with each author, and bring the audience into conversation with two discussants who are leading scholars in this area of educational scholarship.
