Session Type: Symposium
We situate this symposium within the parent involvement and engagement practices in the Latino community to examine the ways parents promote higher education. The presenters use mixed- methods to explore non-dominant forms of parent involvement and engagement. The case studies presented provide examples of research approaches that help support and validate parental efforts, and highlight specific resources that Latino parents utilize to support the higher education aspirations for their children. Through exemplar studies, presenters will discuss culturally sensitive approaches that can help strengthen collaborations among those engaged in school-community partnerships to help support Latino parents, support access to higher education and inform policy and practice. Presenters will share specific strategies that can be adapted to other settings.
