Reconceptualizing Early Childhood Care and Education: Critical Questions, Diverse Imaginaries, and Social Activism

Abstract

This workshop brings together a diverse group of critical early childhood researchers and theorists from several nations to discuss recent scholarship based in part on a new volume addressing foundational issues and debates, new imaginaries, and critical activism. The workshop format provides the opportunity to maximize discussion and interaction, some of which will be in smaller groups. Three broad topics will frame the workshop, with opportunities for smaller group discussion about the broad topics of: (1) Foundational Debates and Critical Questions, (2) Diverse Imaginaries, with a focus on new issues, theoretical frames, or critical questions and new possibilities, and (3) Social Action/Activisms, featuring work of scholars authors engaged in “direct” ways to connect theory/research and critical social action and activism. The goal of the workshop is to highlight new scholarship, critical areas for further work, new areas of collaboration on critical research, policy, theory, curriculum.
