Employing Asset-Based Frameworks to Understand Latino Male Achievement in the K-16 Educational Pipeline

Abstract

This symposium addresses the application of asset-based frameworks to study Latino male achievement within the K-16 educational pipeline. Panelists will discuss how different theoretical frameworks were employed to analyze quantitative and qualitative data on Latino male middle school students, high school students interested in STEM fields, university professors, and high achievers in college. Additionally, panelists will offer new insights that extend how achievement is conceptualized and advance discourse regarding the educational attainment of Latino males. Audience members will also have an opportunity to engage in dialogue regarding the implications of using asset-based theoretical frameworks in education research.
