Abstract

This session brings together scholars and researchers who teach with comics and on comics, practitioners who make comics as a form of research, and those who synthesize all these practices to offer attendees a range of possibilities for using comics across educational settings ranging from elementary school classrooms through specific content area courses in high school and up to the doctoral research of Ph.D candidates. Taking a pluralistic approach, this session explores a variety of ways comics can be taught, studied, and enacted. As a whole, we see comics as a site of great affordances – and as a way of bringing depth into the curriculum through the multiplicity of modes and reading approaches they inherently present.
