“Together We Can Do So Much”: Creating Community and Building Collaborations in Community-Based Participatory Action Research

Abstract

We situate our Roundtable within community-based participatory action research (CBPAR), an innovative methodology where researchers collaborate with community members to take actions that address social problems. Central to CBPAR is the generating of knowledge that is grounded in people's experiences, and using this to strengthen the research, practice and policy cycle that is central to social change. In this Roundtable, we share our experiences in three CBPAR projects with Latina/o youth. The projects highlight how university-community partnerships can foster genuine and culturally relevant collaborations for critical youth engagement and social action. Our goal is to create a community space to reflect on our work, share resources, and build networks of support and collaborations among those engaged in university-community partnerships.
