College Readiness Along the K-Ph.D. Educational Pipeline in the Era of Anti-Affirmative Action

Abstract

This symposium examines strategies to improve access to higher education for low-income students of color. This work is situated in the era of anti-affirmative action, where college access has come under scrutiny for those who have been historically excluded from higher education. Research has illuminated the need to ensure students are college ready, as a way to improve college access and persistence rates. Therefore, K-12 school systems have been undergoing reform efforts to prepare students for college success by high school graduation. College readiness then, becomes a point of interest for school leaders. As universities continue to face legal constraints to define access in the admissions process, this symposium seeks to illuminate alternative pathways to college along the K-Ph.D. pipeline.
