Session Type: Symposium
The benefits of SEL initiatives and programs for youth in and outside educational settings are steadily growing thanks to the research in education, psychology, and related fields. However, by comparison, little is done to reflect on the equal necessity and benefits of focusing on adult SEL – specifically, those to whom we entrust the education and development of our children.
This session will examine the benefits of adult professional development, with embedded focused reflection, on student and educator outcomes. Principal, teacher, and student data will be shared, highlighting the effects of PD based on normed assessment instruments (BarOn EQ-i and DESSA), exemplifying how school districts partnering with professional researchers can result in well informed direct service to students and school communities.
