Session Type: Structured Poster Session
Systems thinking is increasingly central to being scientifically literate (Sabelli, 2006) as evidenced by the Next Generation Science Standards call for teaching cross-cutting patterns of Systems and Systems Models (Achieve, 2013). This session explores ways in which learning about complex systems can be documented, assessed, and traced in classroom environments. The authors bring multiple perspectives to explore how understanding systems can be detected in student and teacher activity. These posters collectively address two key questions: 1) What are the research and implementation methodological challenges and opportunities for assessing student and teacher learning about complex systems?; 2) What is the evidence that students and teachers are learning about complex systems? The potential for building connections between perspectives and methods is encouraged.
