Session Type: Symposium
Responding to the on going “crisis” in education, this symposium provides compelling analyses about race and education, including practical examples of educational possibilities. The authors in this symposium examine African American educators and African American educational practices as distinct, but often overlooked, contributors to the larger educational landscape. Ranging from conceptual and empirical analyses about the unique qualities of African American pedagogy and African American schooled spaces to examinations of current Black educators’ educational and teacher training experiences, the authors in this symposium draw our attention to educational discourses and endeavors that require further consideration and whose inclusion within contemporary dialogues may yield needed insights into the “problems” of education and into untapped options for their resolution.
