Graduate Student Council Chair-Elect Fireside Chat. Being a Mentor, Being a Mentee: Learning From Successful Mentorships in Order to Foster Your Own

Abstract

Though both are important parts of the graduate school process, the terms advisor and mentor are not always one and the same. Advisors come assigned to each of us as we embark upon our graduate school journeys, but mentors may be more difficult to come by. What is a mentor? How do I identify someone who might be a good mentor for me? How do I initiate a mentor-mentee relationship? In this fireside chat, these questions will be answered by mentor-mentee pairs who have successfully navigated their relationships into the world of academia. Participants will leave the session with insights about how to initiate and/or cultivate their own relationships with mentors.
