Reading education has become detached from all other meaningful forms of text production and interpretation in many U.S. urban K-12 classrooms. Thus, although literacy scholars do not necessarily focus on reading education, we are all implicated in the struggle to reframe reading education. This symposium aims to foreground theory and research in reading education that could become a new counter-narrative for organizing radical change in the ways children and teachers practice reading education within and beyond school settings.
