Equity Research and Policy Implications in Athletics and Higher Education: A Joint Session Hosted by Division J and the Research Focus on Education and Sport SIG

Abstract

The purpose of this session is to highlight the similarities and differences between the approaches of promoting equity in the context of Title IX policy and The Equity Scorecard. This session will compare and contrast definitions of equity under Title IX (participation, benefits & services, and scholarship) and in higher education (representational, resource, equity mindedness). This session will also address the shared interests within athletics and education for solving inequities across student groups, staff, and faculty.

It is intended that this session will be followed by breakouts or roundtables by topic area or theme (for example, intersectionality, identity, & equity; Title IX & STEM) that offer opportunity for participants to engage in further discussion, collaboration for future ASHE or AERA proposals, or grant writing that highlights the shared research interests between sport and other educational contexts.
