From the Front Lines: Higher Education Reauthorizations

Abstract

In an increasingly evidence-based atmosphere, federal and state
policymakers and their stakeholders are turning to the research
community to inform the very policies that shape institutional
practice and thus the myriad of opportunities and outcomes associated
with student access and persistence in postsecondary education. At the
same time, however, the majority of education scholarship is not
accessible to policy audiences and/or does not land on the desks of
policymakers. This session offers conference attendees two important
streams of information: 1) updates from the frontlines on the road to
Higher Education and Workforce Investment Act reauthorizations by
Washington, DC-based government relations staff representing distinct
sectors of higher education and 2) why and how research can be more
instructive of these, and other, important policy milestones in the
future.
