Session Type: Invited Session
This session focuses on technology enhanced item templates and prototypes that promise to measure cognitive skills and are primed for scale-up in a large-scale high stakes environment. Presenters will demonstrate approaches to the task of designing innovative items and rubrics which can provide a deeper and more dynamic assessment experience, as well as serve one or more uses such as differentiation of students, application of complex skills, or skill/knowledge acquisition and growth. They will illustrate how such tasks and scoring models are differentiated from traditional selected response tasks and the cognitive/evidence models developed to support their use. A discussant will identify the potential consequences of such items when delivered via technology for various intended purposes ranging from accountability to instruction.
