Graduate Student Council Chair Fireside Chat: The Power of Educator Preparation Provider Accreditation for Innovation in Practice and Policy

Abstract

Unfortunately, meaningful intersections of research, practice, and policy are rare in educator preparation. Evidence-based accreditation focused on quality and continuous improvement is a potential catalyst for innovation. Through a collaborative approach, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the new single accreditor of educator preparation in the United States developed from a merger between NCATE and TEAC, has embarked on an expedition to fulfill this role through an emphasis on evidence and continuous improvement. This panel will focus on the power of partnerships and data to change the culture around accreditation and educator preparation. Panelists include diverse stakeholders who have been engaged in the process of creating and implementing rigorous standards.
