Abstract

Invited speakers, Angela Calabrese Barton and Edna Tan, discuss their work with youth of color for civic engagement, transformation and empowerment. Youth from under-served neighborhoods mobilize their role as community "experts" through science and math to envision and enact change. Questions about identity and knowledge construction/deconstruction, and problematizing the notion of authoring space will be taken up during this interactive and informal gathering as part of the ST&L business meeting. Open to the AERA community. This session will be held off-site.
