The word “innovation” is in the lexicon of every education leader these days, and the ideas that undergird it are animating a movement that is spurring new policies, programs, and products that could potentially transform how students learn and how schools operate. An emerging ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation in U.S. education is fast taking shape. Well-established companies are aggressively staking new claims in the market, new players are arriving on the scene almost daily, and unprecedented infusions of venture and intellectual capital are seeking to reshape and disrupt the field. While many see great opportunity in the evolving innovation landscape, others eye these developments warily. This session brings together an expert group of panelists – representing the experiences of established education companies, technology innovators, start-up ventures, innovative school systems, the academic and research communities, and the media – to discuss, analyze, and debate the historic changes spurring innovation and school improvement.
