Session Type: Invited Session
The National Science Foundation plays a unique role in addressing U.S. priorities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. As pressures for program and project accountability mount, there is a need to develop approaches to STEM education evaluation that (1) explore innovative approaches for determining the impacts and usefulness of STEM education projects and programs; (2) build on and expand the theoretical foundations for evaluating STEM education and workforce development initiatives, including translating and adapting approaches from other fields; and (3) grow the capacity and infrastructure of the evaluation field. This session focuses on a diverse set of projects drawn from the Directorate for Education and Human Resources' (EHR's) Promoting Research and Innovation in Methodologies for Evaluation (PRIME) Program across various settings and STEM content areas. Several investigators will describe their work and NSF program officers will place that in the context of the connection between the PRIME portfolio of work to date and to the rest of EHR.
