Strengthening International Research Collaborations: AERA’s Role

Abstract

Recent studies indicate that the behavioral and social sciences lag behind other sciences in the extent of international research collaborations. This session will consider ways to build infrastructure to strengthen international collaborative research. It will draw upon the reflections of individuals who contributed to a Workshop on this topic sponsored by a committee at the National Academy of Sciences. A number of studies in educational psychology, sociology and policy studies have highlighted the need for organizations like AERA to consider how an International Relations Committee (and other entities) can ensure that the organization both benefits from efforts to enhance international collaborative research and allows its members to contribute their ideas about this important issue.
