Abstract

John W. Franklin, Senior Manager in the Office of the Deputy Director, will trace the museum's history from the Colored Civil War Veterans who asked for the museum through the conceptualization of the museum's scope by scholars and educators. Franklin will explain the processes involved in engaging architects, designers and builders to construct the edifice, develop its exhibitions and programs and plan for the Grand Opening in 2016.
