As a pillar of service-learning, reflection is crucial to students’ understandings of their course work and its connections to their service (Cone & Harris, 1996; Kolb, 1984; Taylor, 2002). In this study, we address student perceptions of service-learning reflection in courses for pre-service teachers. Through analyzing an online survey of university students involved in service-learning art education classes, we build upon the work of others (Hatcher, Bringle, & Muthiah, 2004). Findings from our study indicate that while student reflection styles and preferences vary, the majority of students believes that they learn and grow from reflections that have a public component.
