The purpose of the current study is to demonstrate the relationship between students’ attendance in September and attendance over the rest of the school year. The analysis shows that engagement and behaviors in September, traditionally the first month of school, set the stage for the following nine months and is thus a key segment of time in which successful habits and practices can be established.
