Whilst there have been advances in higher education in the last five years such as an increase in the numbers of Black and minority ethnic (BME) students attending universities, inequalities for BME students and staff continue to exist. This paper will examine the extent to which UK academics consider moving to work in higher education overseas and determine if there is a difference by ethnicity and establish what universities can do to retain minority ethnic academics, and attract back those who have already left. The paper will explore how the development of inclusive policy making can enable universities to retain their talent and move towards an inclusive and diverse environment to contribute to a social justice agenda in higher education.
