To support the learning and success of community college students, who are often from marginalized backgrounds and are frequently academically underprepared, the role of student affairs professionals is critical. Therefore, adequate preparation of student affairs professionals who work in community college settings is paramount. However, literature focused on the intersection between the community college, student affairs, and graduate preparation is sparse, suggesting that student affairs professionals exiting graduate education and entering a community college setting may not be prepared. Within this paper, we argue that critical to the exploration of the preparation of student affairs professionals for community college work is a social justice lens. Suggestions for future inquiries to address the dearth of literature on this topic are included.
