Classroom video is well recognized as a valuable reflective resource for student teachers, but we know little about how supervisors’ pedagogies are shaped by creating and using video with their student teachers. This study explored how 12 supervisors developed greater stances of inquiry by experimenting with video and sharing their experiences with peers. Project meeting and interview transcripts revealed how video not only helped supervisors enhance their personal approaches and anchor messages they wanted to communicate to student teachers about methods, but also challenged them to rethink their roles as observers and build new messages about dispositions. The findings show how a community of practice encourages supervisors to take responsibility as learners and provides a framework for pursuing similar initiatives.
