Social Capital: Conceptual and Practical Considerations in Reciprocal Family Connections

Fri, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

A comprehensive discussion of school dropout issues must include both male and female students – and even more importantly, their families. In this study, the focus is on families, school facilitators, and 845 ninth grade students. What has not been studied with this outreach program is the degree to which these communication strategies work building social connections between the family engagement facilitator and these families. The purpose of this case study, based on a broad understanding of family engagement, is to provide a more thorough understanding of how the family unit and a family engagement facilitator work together. As a team, through their collaborative efforts, they support students to maintain their resiliency while climbing the path to graduation.
