Faculty in higher education are embedded within multiple professional contexts, each with differing values and definitions of success. Variations in how excellence is conceptualized and defined, specifically in regard to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, coupled with the increasing responsibilities placed on faculty members require a solicitous response from institutions seeking preeminence in education. The current study aims to identify how award-winning faculty at a large university utilize and cultivate networks of support to adapt in response to perceived challenges to maintaining a strong commitment to teaching in higher education. As a result of these findings, guidelines for developing systematic institutional supports that acknowledge and reinforce the value of teaching and learning are presented.
