Principals' Perceptions of Their Instructional Leadership Behaviors in Jewish Day Schools

Sun, April 19, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Gold Level, Atlanta

Abstract

This study examines principals’ perceptions of their instructional leadership behavior. The perceptions of male and female principals’ instructional leadership behaviors were compared. In addition, other variables were considered, such as the principal’s precise role in the school, principal type, and level of education. Quantitative data were collected by the use of the Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale. Qualitative data were gathered by in-depth interviews using a semi-structured interview protocol. Although there is a plethora of literature regarding instructional leadership in public education, there are only a handful of studies and articles that deal with instructional leadership in the Jewish day school. This study attempts to contribute to the dearth of research in Jewish education in the area of instructional leadership.
