Providing an Authentic Clinical Supervision Experience for Both Preservice Teachers and Supervisor Certification Candidates: A University Interdepartmental Collaborative Pilot Study

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Marriott, Floor: Fifth Level, Kansas City

Abstract

Current national policy discussion on teacher and school administrator preparation suggests that university preparation programs might need to place more importance on clinical practice and performance assessment. In an effort to explore this issue a pilot study at a mid-sized private university looked to develop and assess the potential for an inter-departmental collaborative clinical supervision assessment/evaluation protocol between pre-service teachers (undergraduate) and supervisor certification candidates (graduate). Qualitative data collected indicates that a collaborative, inter-departmental pre-service teacher supervision protocol might be beneficial for all involved by providing the opportunity for authentic learning and practical clinical application.
