Exploring How Partnership Programs Improve Attendance: Teachers, Principals, and Program Organization

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

Using a national sample of 341 schools and survey data collected over two years, this quantitative study offers evidence that attendance, an important predictor of student success and school quality, can be promoted by high functioning programs of family, school, and community partnerships; strong school leadership; and teacher support for family engagement. The study highlights the key role of teachers in translating the implementation of a school-level program to student outcomes. It showed that robust leadership and well-implemented partnership programs facilitate teachers’ engagement of families and support for partnerships. The findings have implications for teacher practice and preparation.
