Cooperative learning in math, in the form of reciprocal peer tutoring, was implemented in English and Irish medium schools with 505 Grade 6 and Grade 7 students. Post-test results indicated that use of the technique produced significant improvements in math attainment (Effect Sizes +0.45 English medium, +1.0 Irish Medium). Multiple regression analysis indicated that gains were predicted by language patterns that indicated high frequency of asking questions amongst peers. Results indicated that positive effects observed in English medium cooperative learning may be transferred to other language medium teaching (Irish in this case).
