Since it was first defined, the concept of test validity has greatly evolved. The current definition considers test validity as a unitary concept, requiring several types of evidences when interpreting test scores. Despite the AERA, APA and NCME endorsing this conception of test validity, it seems that most test developers and researchers do not use/share that same conception. In this study, we used a systematic review method to explore the different conceptions and methods used for test validation in scientific literature. Results showed that most papers do not refer to the modern conception of validity. Results also revealed a plethora of terms suggesting a mix-up in naming types of validity and in procedures used for gathering validity evidence.
