"No Excuses": Citizenship Education in a National Charter School Network

Abstract

In this study I explore how a charter school network prepares low-income minority students for citizenship using the “no excuse” model. I also seek to explore the relationship between school ethos, citizenship education in social studies classes, and students’ depictions of themselves as citizens of their schools and the nation.
