Mainstream studies, majoritarian assumptions, and teacher programs have always understood communities of color as culturally deficient. In this article, the author overviews critical race studies and queer studies as a constellation of theoretical frameworks for a major research study. In this process, the author unpacks “A Queer of Color Critique” epistemology that explores how issues of gender and sexuality in communities of color challenge socially constructed binaries. Finally, the author encourages critical race scholars to include Queer LatCrit in further studies to analyze how gender and sexuality intersect other systems of oppression in education.
