Abstract

School principal leadership is an important component in educational reforms. Intelligent and virtuous principals, who have reached a higher stage of moral reasoning and possess the ability to infuse their schools with just and caring atmospheres, are beneficial for effective moral education transformation. This study focused on an inquiry into principals’ moral reasoning and their perceptions of school culture in Taiwan’s elementary, junior high and senior (vocational) high schools. The methods were conducted through symposia, interviews and a questionnaire. 303 principals participated in the survey, which included a rating of‘School as Caring Community Profile II’ (SCCP) and two moral stories. Finally, the researcher integrated all data of the two-year project and examined its scientific significance and educational implications.
