The anthropological practice of musicking, including its associated music pedagogy (teaching and learning) and its place within humanities, has been challenged to understand the impact of the emergence of forms of technologically hybrid (cyborg) public knowledge production, an area dubbed the posthumanities (Herbrechter 2013). Whether music theorists and music pedagogues wish to admit it or not, humanist musicking is now not the only musicking practice; posthumanist musicking is well underway. This paper will present initial findings from the first two years of a Posthumanities music learning lab called SoundCultures, that seeks to document the music pedagogical implication of emergent technology on higher education music learning.
