Numerous studies have brought attention to the gaps that exist between boys and girls at the basic level, especially young girls from poor families in the remote rural areas in Ghana (Palmer, 2005; Pryor & Ampiah, 2003; Sutherland-Addy, 2002). Qualitative research using interviews and observation as the primary methods was used for this study. In addition, descriptive statistics were analyzed using secondary data about the trends and patterns on education for girls in Ghana. The themes that emerged from the interviews were financial challenges such as financial support/poverty, cultural beliefs as obstacles, and sexual harassment experiences.
