Public School Superintendent Leadership Self-Efficacy: The Role of Prior Experience

Abstract

Leadership self-efficacy of public school superintendents and the relationship to prior experience and school district achievement was examined via quantitative methods. Leadership self-efficacy data and demographics information were collected via self-report from 156 current public school superintendents. District achievement data were collected via publicly available data sets. Results indicated a significant relationship between leadership self-efficacy, number of years of experience and prior experience as a building principal. There were no significant relationships between leadership self-efficacy and school district achievement. Implications and future directions are discussed.
