Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Sheraton, Floor: Fourth Level, Chicago VI&VII

Abstract

This paper examines a wide range of factors related to email survey response rate in academic research. A cross- sectional quantitative method was used to analyze the factors that impact research email survey return rates. Results indicated that survey response rate was highly influenced by research interests of participants, survey structure, length of survey, the use of pre-notification, a clear research subject heading in email message, professional email invitation, short and concise question items, a reminder, and assurance of privacy and confidentiality. Also, the findings suggest that males are more likely to respond to survey if they received a reminder, while older participants are more likely to respond if they are promised a reward.
