The purpose of this pilot study was to examine pre-service teachers’ reflections of their teaching to see if there was evidence of their recognition of not only the mechanics of teaching but also the artistry. In the case of pre-service teachers, reflection is important in helping them develop into thoughtful practitioners with both mechanical skills and artistic vision to become quality educators. Researchers analyzed pre-service teachers’ structured reflection responses of two video-recorded teaching sessions. As expected, findings revealed pre-service teachers gained insight into the mechanics of teaching, but more importantly gained insight into using mechanics to make learning meaningful for students.
